Right now in America, we’re going through it. We’re not gonna sugar coat it and pretend like everything is cool and we’re all living our best lives. But things aren’t TERRIBLE either. Lately, we’ve had multiple conversations with friends and family and they all end up saying in one way or another that, “the world is going to SHT.” While things can be horrible or horrific, it doesn’t make the world a terrible place. It just means the circumstances we’re living in are unfavorable for some. However, we wanna share another perspective with you. Now, don’t get us wrong, we completely feel triggered by a lot of the violence, and sht going wrong in the world right now, but in comparison to the world our parents and grandparents were living in, it’s really not that bad.
We went in depth on this topic on episode #152 of the PUSH Podcast, which you can listen to hear!
Since you’re hear, let’s get into the 9 REASONS why the world actually isn’t going to SH*T!
Despite the mass shootings, and the Ukraine War- which are TERRIBLE, we’re not living in a time right now that contains genocides, and mass warfare on a daily basis. Based on archeological evidence, it’s believed that in early civilization, about 15 percent of all lives ended in murder. In comparison to today, worldwide homicide is at it’s lowest rate ever. When you look at those statistics, it’s frightening to think that 15 percent of ALL people lives ended in murder and thats a stat we’re glad not to be apart of.
Now, friends we’ve got a LONGGGG way to go when it comes to women, LGBTQ, and human rights; but for the first time in history, there’s no country in the world with legal slavery. And to be honest, that’s a F*CKING WIN. Thinking about our ancestors who had to live through that, with little to no rights, that was HARD. And for the first time in history, we don’t have that racial tolerance. Despite, what’s currently going on with women and roe vs. wade, women have more rights than ever. Thinking about the 40’s and 50’s, our grandmothers couldn’t even really work, let alone make enough money to support all their children if their husbands died. Yes, we still have SO MUCH world to do with equality, and equal pay, but now us women make up 40 percent of the work forces, and that’s pretty amazing.
What do we mean by this because there is still A LOT of work men can do to treat women with more respect. Even though y’all have got some learning to do, women aren’t gonna tolerate being treated with disrespect anymore. With social media, and the internet, women are putting their men on blast if they’re not treating them fairly. In addition, “slapping” and “beating” on women, isn’t something men can get away with anymore for the bulk of the world. Today is sexual assault is LESS widespread and has made a huge leap backwards in just 20 years which makes us feel good for women all around.
This one is extremely triggering for us with the school shootings that seem to happen more and more frequently but with this statement we’re referring to our children being kidnaped or molested. We know these are extremely disturbing stats to think about but looking back when we were growing up in the 80’s and 90’s when children we’re being kidnapped left and right yet we would still ride our bikes 4 blocks away and not have a care in the world, in comparison to today with the starts being 1.5 percent in 1.5 MILLION of kids being abducted, that’s a crazy low number. I know parents today are more freaked out than because of abductions, and child trafficking but with only 3.1 percent of those abductions actually happening by a stranger, parents can feel a little bit more ease. Again, this is just offering a new lens for you to look out of and think about when you think the world is going down hill.
This is an exciting stat for business owners like us because it means that people for once are taking their lives into their own hands. They’re making the money they want, they’re working the hours they want, and they’re creating the freedom they desire out of life. To us that’s a sign that people’s mindsets are starting to shift and recognizing their capabilities.
We have the right to VOTE and make our voices HEARD, even if it doesn’t feel like that all the time. Now more than ever, you hear the complaints and opinions for all sides, because we’re actually allowed to SPEAK UP and complain. You’re allowed to voice your opinion, you’re allowed to choose a side, you’re allowed to have a conversation and post what you feel and believe in on social media. You have the FREEDOM of voice and that wasn’t always the case in our lifetime. Of course there are still communist countries across the globe, but democracy and freedom of speech is more widespread than ever and that’s something to celebrate.
Today there are 702 million impoverished people, although that sounds like a lot they only make up 9.6 percent of the world’s population. But if you compare that stat to 1820, 94 percent of the world lived in extreme poverty. That’s basically EVERYONE you knew back then. Rates have steadily and consistently have gone down and theres still so much to do about world hunger and child hunger but we’ve come such a long way since then.
To keep it simple and sweet, we’re LIVING LONGER. Our life expectancy has gone up by 6 years or so meaning we’re now leaving until we’re in our 80’s-90’s. Gyms and fitness centers are more accessible than ever (and cheaper than $10 a month, which is great)! When we hear the world cancer, or HIV, it’s no longer an immediate death sentence like it was 10-20 years ago. There is technology that allows us to get immediate health data and it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come and we can only image how health and wellness is going to advance in the years to come.
Information is accessible at our finger tips. When we first started our personal development journey, reading all the books, and finding all these amazing people, getting this type of information cost MONEY. And this was money that we didn’t necessarily have at the time. Today, we have PODCASTS, (like the PUSH podcast, which you can listen to hear) conferences, masterminds, social media, apps; so many things that can educate you. Even speaking to our 14 year old, the conversations we have with her aren’t ANYTHING we remember even thinking about at her age. The younger generation is taking control of their education. They’re learning things that took us YEARS to even think about, and it’s great to see how much more aware and informed the younger generations are becoming.
Even though we’re improving, we still need to continue to ADVOCATE for these things. We have to advocate for more equality, advocate for our underprivileged to have opportunities, advocate for more HUMAN rights. Ultimately the reason why the world is getting better is because voices are being heard. Our voices are stronger than ever but we still have to encourage others to speak up, get their opinions heard, and make their voice known.
We hope you remember that despite all the unfortunate circumstances, or no matter how much the world feels like it’s going to sh*t, the world is still a great place.
