Friends! Why are we so caught up in the FEAR of everything? Some of us are scared to make that career change, some of us are scared to make that big investment (even if it’s in ourselves, might I add). Maybe  you’re scared to have a DIFFERENT perspective than your friends & family, and some of us are even scared to just say NO!

But what if you decided enough is enough and you’re ready to JUMP! Jump all into something different. Embracing the unknown, the discomfort and excited for the future? In 2020, our lives completely changed! We  got our 2020 vision and we started  seeing the life we envisioned for ourselves CLEARLY! And I want you to too!

On February 28th, 2020, we made one of the BIGGEST decisions for our family. I announced one of the biggest transitions of my life… I was selling The Cake Mamas!!! The bakery I built in 2009, based off a little dream, from my home, with ZERO DOLLARS to my name, with my husband’s EX, and zero knowledge of the food/baking industry! (STUPID, right?!)

The bakery that has employed over 100 talented bakers, decorators and amazing customer service providers for the past 10+ years! The bakery that my kids grew up in! (That TRUTHFULLY, caused a tremendous amount of MOMMY GUILT! *Which I KNOW a lot of you mamas also struggle with…Am I right?…)

And yes, the bakery where I’ve met some of the most amazing customers, who have now become friends, and in some cases, FAMILY!

So, why the heck did I decide to do this? Well, I’m explaining the whole thing in episode #154 of the Push Podcast! Which you can listen to HERE!

But let me break it  down a little for you here…

  1. I’m a completely different person TODAY vs. who I was back in April 2009 when I started this dream of owning a bakery
  2. My priorities & passions have shifted. My life, family, children and goals are all different and require me to INVEST my time, creativity, and energy in other ways.
  3. It’s been a FREAKING DECADE! I’ve put in my time, and I’m ready & excited for this next chapter of my life!

For the past two years, I’ve over-extended and worked myself into exhaustion trying to balance two businesses and being present for my family.

I’ve known that I was meant to create a bigger impact beyond what I was doing for my local community. My purpose & passion is now coaching and mentoring other bakery owners and creative entrepreneurs from all around the world and specifically helping women step into their power and create the businesses of their dreams!

This chapter of my life has been amazing and nothing short of interesting. Although it’s been two years since I made this decision, the idea of MOVING ON and leaving something behind is still as relevant today as it was back then. In that spirit, Eddie and I are sharing the six steps that can help you, if you might also be going through a SHIFT IN LIFE too!

1. DISRUPTION

People are always looking to live a problem FREE life. At times they can also feel like their problems are so unique and so different that THEY have to be the problem, when really it’s just a part of life.  Your problems may be outside of your control, so you feel like you can’t do anything about it, when that’s simply not true. The world will give us DISRUPTIONS in the forms of “problems” and “difficulties” but we ALSO have the opportunity to create our own disruptions and take the power back.

We don’t want pain, we don’t want discomfort, we don’t want challenges; but on the OTHERSIDE of disruption is when we really start to receive the fruits of all our hard work and pain. Disruption gives you the opportunity to expose yourself to something different and something new. It allows you to explore a different side of you, to see what you’re made of, and who you really are. You can either cry and complain about it, or lean into disruption and figure out what this season is meant to teach you.

2. DECISION

When your backs against the wall, you feel like your life’s falling apart, or you just keep getting hit with the sh*t end of the stick, you can either lay there and take it or you can MOVE YOUR A** and do something about it. This is when you gotta MOVE. You have to make a decision. You have to ask yourself, “where am I trying to go in life,” “what path should I take,” and then you just have to MOVE. When you finally make that decision, that’s when you take your POWER back.

So many people feel like they need answers before making a decision or taking action. They search for signs from the universe and just want clarity on what their next moves should be. But the thing they forget is that the DECISION will bring you the clarity you’re searching for.

3. GROWTH

When we talk about GROWTH, we like to talk about the seed analogy. You get planted, you get buried with soil (aka all your damn problems), and then you BLOOM. But in order to bloom you have to nurture the seed. You have to do the work, you have to do the self awareness work, and the seed has to plant roots, to work its way up through all the soil that’s buried on top in order to start blooming. Simply put, you have to go down before you can go up. You’re going to face challenges along the way in whatever you’re doing. But you have to PUSH through those instances because if you don’t, you’ll remain feeling stuck and stagnant, and questioning your purpose.

4. BUILDING

Now that you’ve made a decision and you’re on this new path, you have to start building. For us, when we sold the bakery, we had to build up this new business. We had to learn new technology, we had to learn a different way to connect and market with customers, we had to learn an entirely different industry, and this was when we realized the importance of having support and being able to call on your resources.

In your life, this could mean leaning on your family for emotional support. This could be calling on a friend who has recommendations for you. This could be leveraging old work relationships and finding help. This is all about making moves, asking for help  and getting to where you wanna go!

5. NURTURING AND REFINING

This is a season where you need to continue to INNOVATE. You need to figure out what’s working and what’s not. You need to continue to love on the people who are supporting you and pour into them. People try to nurture a healthy body, when they haven’t taken the time to BUILD healthy habits, so they don’t see the results they’re hoping for. This is why it’s so important to build before you start nurturing, refining, and tweaking this new part of your life.

To go back to the seed analogy, this is when you have to water the seed. This is when you’re pouring into yourself, ripping out the weeds, and making sure you have everything you need to flourish and bloom.

6. FINISHING

This can go two ways. You can either finish whatever it is you’re working towards and live there in that new season, or you can end it and move on to something new which brings you back to disruption. The issue that arises when you get to this stage of life is that we often quit before we can get to the finish line. We’ve been hit with problem after problem and it just eats at you to the point where you’re burnt out and wanting to throw in the towel. In our case with the bakery, I was at a point where I couldn’t be fully committed, showing up as my best to BOTH of my businesses, so I had to decide which one I wanted to fully pursue. Maybe you’re at this same place. Maybe, you’re caught between a forked road, and you need to pick a path. You have to finish one in order to fully commit to something new. So, don’t get quitting and finishing mixed up. You can close the door on something and it doesn’t mean you’re giving up or quitting. But it’s important to recognize whether you’re closing the door because it’s finished or because you’re throwing in the towel.

If you’re in a season of transition or if you’re not sure what your next step is going to be, it’s okay to be unsure. But friend, you need to decide one way or another. See what’s out there for you! Explore new things, take  some risks while you can!

I mean, are you going to take a leap of faith and TRUST that everything will work out? Or will you stay STUCK in your comfort zone because you’re scared of the “what if?”

When you do decide, I trust that you’ll take these six steps to heart, and go ALL in with whatever choice you make. Your FUTURE SELF is depending on you!
